SUMMARY:Member Update: New York Wines Online Marketing Activities
DESCRIPTION:Learn about the benefits and responsibilities for wineries participating in Tier 3 Membership. A detailed overview of BuyNewYorkWines.com\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nNew York Wine & Grape Foundation Tier 3 Members have the benefit of being featured in our Virtual Seminar series staring in late April. Our “New York Wines Online” program will host two events monthly\, and we want to help you make the most of this opportunity! \nWineries participating in the program will also have some important responsibilities. One of those is to list any wine featured in a “New York Wines Online” seminar (or other virtual experience) on the www.buynewyorkwines.com website through Vinoshipper. Our primary goal is to ensure that consumers in New York who watch the seminars can buy the wine online – all in one place. \nMembers have had various questions about the Vinoshipper platform\, both in relation to our program\, and about the mechanics and compliance aspects of the site. Learn about all of this on March 12th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM. \nNYWGF staff will provide a program update\, answering some frequently asked questions. We will also be welcoming Theresa Dorr from VinoShipper to guide us through the nuts and bolts of signing up and listing your wine on our hub. \nClick here to register for free!

SUMMARY:Fireside Chat with Sam Filler & Guests
DESCRIPTION:Will New York Wine Tourism be the “Comeback Kid?” Preparing for upcoming tourism season and lessons learned during the pandemic year.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor many wineries the 2020 Summer and Fall tourism season was the best they’ve ever seen. Was this Covid-related “blip” on the radar just that – a one time occurrence? How are wineries\, and their wine trail marketing partners\, making the most of the experience they gained last year to improve this year’s tourism season? Join wine trail leaders and members from across the state as they share details about how the year went. What is the expectation for this coming tourism season? What adaptations for wineries (and wine trails themselves) were successful and will remain\, and which will not? What support do wineries and wine trail marketers need from the NYWGF? \nWhy the Fireside Chat? We are eager to see you all in person soon\, but for now we invite you to join us online to have the discussions we might have had in your offices or your tasting rooms. We look forward to talking about issues affecting your businesses and our community. Let’s share ways we can help each other and ways the New York Wine & Grape Foundation can continue to best serve you. \nWe invite you to join in – perhaps with a glass of your favorite New York wine – and ask questions during this informal but informational online chat. \n\nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Conducting a Winery Financial & Operational Analysis
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to structure\, review\, and synthesize your winery data to build for success – without sacrificing compliance.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecord keeping can be cumbersome and overwhelming\, but it is necessary for compliance and tax purposes. What else can your sales\, inventory\, and other records tell you about the health and potential success of your winery? From there\, the budding sommelier spent the next six years working with his father and grandfather at La Scala\, overseeing the beverage program and managing the front-of-the-house staff. \nIn 1991\, Paul traveled to NYC for a three-month sojourn\, and he never left. Honing his service skills at Manhattan’s Remi Restaurant\, and other top-notch places\, like Bouley\, Gotham Bar and Grill\, Gabriel’s\, and Judson Grill\, which he opened with his mentor Chris Cannon in 1994. He eventually landed at Gramercy Tavern\, to learn the aspects of “enlightened hospitality” from creators Danny Meyer and Tom Colicchio. During his tenure at Gramercy Tavern\, Grieco won both the James Beard Awards for Outstanding Service in 2001 and for Outstanding Wine Service in 2002. \nIn 2003\, Grieco and chef-partner Marco Canora opened Hearth in the East Village\, and the duo’s first and second wine bars\, Terroir\, in 2008 and 2010. After a successful 11 year run together\, Greico and Canora parted ways; Grieco taking ownership of Terroir\, Canora remaining at Hearth. Today you’ll find Paul presiding over the beverage program at Terrior’s Harrison St location\, where he and the team continue to innovate the utmost of hospitable wine service to the masses of “Acid Hounds\,” who flood the downtown Tribeca neighborhood year round.

SUMMARY:VineBalance RFP Information Session
DESCRIPTION:The New York Wine and Grape Foundation seeks a consultant to update VineBalance as the basis for a new sustainability certification program for the New York grape and wine industry. To support this process\, we will be holding an online information session on June 16\, 2021 at 1pm/EDT. \nClick Here to Register \nBackground: \nNYWGF is developing a third-party certification for sustainably farmed grapes and wine. The basis for this certification will be the VineBalance Guide to Sustainable Viticulture\, a grower self-assessment workbook codeveloped by the Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Soil and Water Conservation Committee of the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets in 2007. This workbook has been widely applied across the state\, but it lacks a system of third-party verification and logo for special labeling. A pilot program for Yates County grape growers will begin in 2022 with the intent to expand statewide. The program will serve winegrowers who cultivate V. vinifera\, V. labrusca\, and hybrid grape varieties. Growers who achieve certification will be permitted to use the logo for direct-to-consumer marketing. This market-based approach will provide a continuous incentive for value-added producers to purchase sustainably farmed grapes and increase the visibility of sustainable wines in the marketplace. \nThe purpose of the RFP is to provide high level strategic and structural recommendations for certification design based on sustainability best practices\, while balancing the small-scale and independent nature of New York’s wine industry. The ideal candidate will be experienced in East Coast climate and agriculture\, viticulture and enology\, international standards of sustainable winegrowing\, and environmental certifications deployed by other agricultural industries. The VineBalance RFP is available here and responses are due by June 30\, 2021.

SUMMARY:Fireside Chat with Sam Filler & Guests
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a discussion about the lessons learned from the exciting Lodi “Modern Farmer Series” and how we can use them in New York.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nOne of the most popular sessions at this year’s B.E.V. NY conference was “Telling Your Grower Story\,” brought to you directly by Lodi Winegrower’s Dr. Stephanie Bolton. Today we welcome her back\, along with Mike Colizzi\, NYWGF Board Member\, Owner of Kashong Glen Vineyards and Technician at Cornell University in the Grape Breeding and Genetics Program\, for a discussion about how we might take the lessons learned in the Lodi “Modern Farmer Series\,” and apply them here. For those who participated in our Grower Survey recently\, NYWGF values the information on the grapes you grow. While there’s still a long way to go\, correct data is just the beginning to telling our story and selling more grapes. Join us for a candid conversation about where the grower community is heading\, what we need to do to get there\, and how NWYGF and our partners can help! \nClick Here to Register \n\n\nStephanie Bolton leads the Grower Research\, Education\, & Communications initiatives for the Lodi Winegrape Commission\, along with the LODI RULES program. Bolton provides targeted and daily support to Lodi winegrape growers in the areas of advanced grower education and outreach\, marketing and promotions of the region’s diverse winegrapes\, and – most notably – viticultural research and sustainability programming\, including Lodi’s world-renowned LODI RULES sustainable winegrowing certification program. The Lodi AVA (CA Crush District 11) contains over 100\,000 acres of grapevines\, with a unique profile where new vineyard plantings exist alongside century-old vines\, soil types range from sandy loam to volcanic terrain\, and just about every trellising system invented is being used.
