Times are changing and, as in most industries, grower business models have been flipped on their heads. For those looking to diversify or build capacity, Tier Two Membership benefits can help. Are negotiations pending or are compliance reports and taxes due? Do you have questions about your PPP loan? Are you thinking about a new website, sales technology, or a new marketing initiative? If so, this membership level is designed to empower you with the knowledge on how to create, execute, and measure the effectiveness of your activities.  

Tier Two Membership provides you with all the benefits of Tier One plus access to 4 to 6 enhanced webinars on topics like digital skill building and metrics, and website best practices.  Tier Two members are also provided with free, individual consulting opportunities through our capacity building partners. In 2021 those partners will include the DTC Wine Workshop Network, Farm Credit East, the WISE Academy, and Mengel, Metzger, Barr, CPAs.  

  • Dues are $100 annually, regardless of vineyard acreage.  
  • The membership year runs from April 1st through March 31st.

Building the knowledge and capacity of our winery and grower members is important to us. Working with our partners at Cornell, the American Wine Society, Eastern Winery Exposition, the U.S. Sustainable Winegrowing Summit, FLXcursion and others we aim to bring our members conference discounts on cutting edge education, keynote speakers and VIP experiences. Discounts typically range from 10% to 20% depending on the event. 

The Vine Hotline: In order to help members tackle the complex issues of alcohol regulations and excise taxes, tax credits, tax preparation, grant applications, business planning, and more, New York Wine & Grape Foundation has partnered with our Business Associate Member Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co., LLP to provide you with a Members Only Help Desk. NYWGF Members can now submit their confidential questions online here. These will be answered each week by Anthony Sandonato and his team at Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co., LLP. The answers will be sent directly to you within 48 hours.

One of the most valuable and timely benefits of membership is access to webinars and educational events. These virtual events give you access to experts on wine marketing, financial compliance, legal and tax issues, best-in-class business practices, design and trademarking, and much, much more.

Basic Webinars are introductory in style and will provide a high-level overview of a topic.

  • Sessions are usually 45-60 minutes long, including time for Q&A.
  • Provide a key ‘takeaway’ tool or template.
  • Provide presenter contact information should a participant want to ask a follow up question or engage in services.
  • Presenters may choose to provide a NYWGF “members only” rate for additional services.

 

Advanced Webinars provide a more in-depth educational experience online.

  • Session content should be no less than 90 minutes.
  • A minimum of five (5) key learning objectives should be communicated to participants in advance of the session.
  • The webinar experience should be enhanced with engagement tools such as surveys, quizzes, videos, or breakout group exercises.
  • A pre-survey tool may be utilized by the presenter and a prep meeting with NYWGF staff will be required.

New York Wine tourism generates sales, creates hospitality jobs, and draws visitor attention to the State’s cultural and historical assets. In an effort to act as the leader in branding New York wines and the winery experience, the Foundation and its wine trail partners created the New York Wine Tourism Marketing Toolkit. The New York Wine Tourism Marketing Toolkit provides practical marketing advice on how to increase visitation to tasting rooms and elevate visitors’ experience, thus making New York State a world premier wine tourism destination. The toolkit includes profiles of three potential visitor targets who exhibit a higher inclination to visit a New York winery.  These profiles are coupled with recommended marketing strategies to motivate them to visit.  The toolkit offers specific operational tactics that wineries and wine trails can deploy to generate greater brand loyalty from the visitor targets.

With the complexities and new business realities of 2021, professional finance and tax tools for New York’s wineries and growers are needed now more than ever. NYWGF has partnered with Mengel, Metzger, Barr & Co. LLP to assist our Winery & Grower Members with critical questions on tax planning, inventory accounting, general accounting, excise tax/TTB issues and sales tax. Tier 2 & 3 Members will have access to financial and tax guidance in webinar form, as well as through individual consulting for your specific needs provided by Anthony G. will also have access to Enhanced Webinars, presented exclusively for our community. Wine Club Mastery (15 hours – 5, 3-hour sessions) will be held in April 2021, and Tasting Room Best Practices (6 hours – 2, 3-hour sessions) will be held in June.

Consulting Services

To assist members with questions about their business, overall earnings, costs to produce wine, gross profit, profit analysis, cash flow analysis, and more – we are pleased to offer a new consulting benefit with Farm Credit East (FCE).

After completing the consulting intake questionnaire, FCE staff will schedule and conduct a one (1) hour virtual meeting with NYWGF Tier 2 or 3 members to further explore the issues, provide immediate recommendations where appropriate, and pursue a formal engagement, if desired by the member.

Benchmarks Program Subsidy

The Farm Credit East Winery Benchmarks program is a unique way to see how your business compares to  industry peers. The program is designed to serve as an annual management report and business improvement process. Peers and consultants together discuss issues related to winery financial performance and strategy to better align with market goals for the future. Along with an in-depth financial and operational analysis of your business, you can interact with other successful winery owners, take part in dialogue to better understand your industry and gain constructive feedback from an experienced Farm Credit consultant. A $350 subsidy of will be provided to Tier 2 and 3 member winery or grower members by NYWGF.
