PFAS in Agricultural Systems: What we know, don’t know, and where we are headed

Monday, April 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of tens of thousands of human-made chemicals widely used in different industries that pose a growing threat to water quality, agricultural soils, and ecosystem health. Deemed “forever chemicals” because of their slow breakdown and persistence, PFAS are now widely detected in the environment and food systems. Recently, PFAS contamination has become an increasing concern on farms because of land-applied biosolids. This webinar will provide an overview of PFAS, current state of the science, regulations around the land application of biosolids in NYS, and what mitigation and remediation strategies are being researched. This webinar is targeted for the agricultural community but is open to anyone interested in learning more about PFAS and land application of biosolids in New York State. After the presentations, the speakers will take part in a live Q&A session. The webinar will be recorded.
