PENN YAN, NY – March 1, 2023 – The New York Wine & Grape Foundation is thrilled to announce the 2023 New York Wine Classic, the ultimate celebration of New York wines. This annual wine competition, now in its 37th year, recognizes excellence in winemaking, and provides an important platform for New York wineries to showcase their products to a global audience.
The New York Wine Classic is open to all types of wine, including red, white, rosé, sparkling, and fortified wines. This year’s competition is expected to feature over 600 wines from 100 wineries across New York State.
All wines entered in the competition will be blind-tasted and evaluated by a panel of expert judges who are experienced wine professionals, including sommeliers, retailers, and educators. The top wines in each category will be awarded medals, including Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals, as well as Best of Class, and the prestigious Governor’s Cup and Winery of the Year awards.
The New York Wine Classic is more than just a wine competition – it’s a celebration of New York’s rich winemaking heritage and its vibrant wine industry. Winning wines will be featured in written articles and virtual events throughout the rest of the year to further celebrate the unique terroir and winemaking techniques that make New York wines so special.
“We’re excited to showcase the best of New York wines at this year’s competition,” said Sam Filler, Executive Director of the New York Wine & Grape Foundation. “The New York Wine Classic is the ultimate celebration of New York’s winemaking excellence, and we can’t wait to see which wines will come out on top.”
