The New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF) is once again proud to join Come Over October (COO)—a global movement that celebrates wine’s true purpose: bringing people together.
Founded by Karen MacNeil, Gino Colangelo, and Kimberly Noelle Charles, Come Over October encourages people everywhere to open their doors and their bottles, inviting family, friends, and neighbors to gather over wine throughout the month of October. What began as a simple idea—wine as a connector—has quickly grown into an international campaign. This year, its reach is even more remarkable: COO’s co-creators are finalists for Wine Enthusiast’s Person of the Year.
Why COO Resonates in New York
New York’s wine industry is powered by nearly 500 wineries, the majority of which are small and family-owned. These wineries produce a diverse range of cool-climate wines designed to be approachable, food-friendly, and shared.
That spirit of accessibility and community is at the heart of COO—and it’s why New York feels like a natural home for the movement. Here, growers and winemakers collaborate closely, supporting one another and ensuring wine remains something that belongs at every table, not just on special occasions.
“New York wines are meant to be shared. They’re made by families, enjoyed with food, and perfect for everyday gatherings. Come Over October reminds us that wine is really about connection, and I’m proud that New York can play such a big role in this global movement,” said Sam Filler, Executive Director of NYWGF.
How NYWGF Will Celebrate
Throughout October, NYWGF will highlight COO across all of its channels, sharing stories, pairing ideas, and tools that make it easy to join the celebration. This includes:
An upcoming feature where NYWGF staff share how they’ll celebrate COO and what the movement means to them.
Resources like our Food Pairing Guides, designed to help you find the perfect New York wine for any meal.
Ways to explore and plan trips to New York’s wine regions, including through our Wine Enthusiast New York region page and our interactive map of New York’s certified sustainable vineyards and wineries.
- An upcoming feature from Robin Shreeves and Kathleen Willcox on Food Pairings from Macari Vineyards, Milea Estate Vineyards, Ryan William Vineyard, Channing Daughters, and Element Winery.
Together, these resources make it easier than ever to raise a glass with family and friends this October.
