Wines from New York Featured in Ontario for the First Time in Almost 30 Years

April 22nd, 2020, Penn Yan NY – The New York Wine & Grape Foundation is pleased to announce that The Liquor Control Board of Ontario, Canada (LCBO) will be offering New York wines for sale through their Destination and Vintages collections beginning on April 26th, 2020. The LCBO is one of the largest wine-purchasers in the world.

The LCBO will feature wine from eight New York wineries located in the Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, and Long Island. The partnership between the LCBO and the New York Wine & Grape Foundation (NYWGF) will help New York winemakers connect to new customers and promote their products to an international market.

“This release represents the culmination of a lot of hard work by members of our industry who have invested in our community, elevated the quality of our wines, and enhanced our standing in the world,” said Sam Filler, New York Wine & Grape Foundation Executive Director. “We’re very proud of New York, and we always knew we had quality wines. To have the LCBO feature this New York selection is a significant achievement. It shows that New York State is gaining international acclaim for being one of the finest wine-producing regions of the world.”

The online exclusives and “Destination Collection” in stores will feature products from:

“Vintages Catalogue” selections will include:

Wineries also available through consignment warehouse for sales to restaurants and private order include:

Wine Align, Canada’s largest online platform for wine reviews, will also release tasting notes and scores on the New York wines. In addition, Wine Align will compile a feature article on the wines and regions of New York State in tandem with the release of the New York collection in late April at the LCBO.

WineAlign President Bryan McCaw said, “Several wine writers from WineAlign’s experienced team had attended a tasting of over 40 New York wines to be considered for the upcoming LCBO release and were impressed with the overall quality and diversity of styles. It is fascinating that a wine region of over 470 wineries, literally just next door, is yet to be discovered by Ontario wine consumers.”

An initial estimated 100 cases will be offered online and in stores beginning on April 26.  An additional 140 cases will be offered in the “Vintages Collection” store sections on May 16, with the potential for future purchases and releases of New York wines. The efforts will be supported by Taste NY and Boldly, NY. branding.
